From Student to CEO: The Real Journey Behind Building Revenue Rx Pro

In 2023, I graduated from Forsyth Technical Community College with an Associate of Applied Science degree in Medical Office Administration: Billing & Coding. At the time, I knew healthcare administration was the field I wanted to grow in, but I also knew graduation was only the beginning of the journey.

After earning my associate degree, I continued my education at North Carolina Central University, pursuing my Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Administration. So far, I’ve completed 37 credit hours while maintaining a 3.6 GPA. Balancing school, marriage, motherhood, and everyday life taught me very quickly that ambition and reality sometimes collide.

Eventually, I made the difficult decision to pause my bachelor’s degree program. One of the biggest reasons was financial. Like many students, I reached the limits of my financial aid, and continuing school became more challenging than I expected.

But even during that pause, I refused to stop growing.

Instead of giving up on my goals, I decided to invest directly into myself and into the future of my business, Revenue Rx Pro.

One thing people don’t always talk about when starting a business is how expensive credibility can be. Behind every professional title are certifications, memberships, exam fees, training programs, and long nights spent learning.

My first major goal is earning my Certified Professional Coder (CPC) credential through AAPC. For a long time, I procrastinated on taking the exam because of the cost alone — $425 for one attempt or $499 for two attempts. When you’re building a business and managing a household, every dollar matters.

Once I decided to officially build Revenue Rx Pro as a dental revenue cycle management company, I realized I needed even more specialized education.

The next certifications on my journey are:

  • Certified Dental Biller
  • Certified Dental Coder

I plan to complete the dual certification program through the American Dental Coders Association. The program itself costs around $900, and with membership fees included, the total comes to approximately $999.

The final certification I plan to earn is the Certified Outpatient Revenue Cycle Manager credential through the American Institute of Healthcare Compliance. Between the certification cost and annual professional membership fees, that investment totals about $550.

Altogether, I will be investing nearly $2,000 out of pocket into certifications alone.

For some people, that number may sound overwhelming. But for me, it represents commitment.

I don’t want Revenue Rx Pro to simply be “another business.” I want it to be respected. I want healthcare providers and dental offices to trust that I understand the complexities of billing, coding, compliance, and revenue cycle management. My degree gave me the foundation, but I understand that continuing education is what will strengthen my expertise.

That’s why I’m currently applying for grants and searching for funding opportunities to help support this next phase of growth.

This journey has taught me something important: nothing meaningful comes easy.

Building a business requires sacrifice, patience, education, and the willingness to keep going even when progress feels slow. Right now, I spend my time reading books on revenue cycle management, researching grants, studying educational business modules, and learning how to become the CEO Revenue Rx Pro deserves.

Once I secure funding, my goal is to dedicate the next 5–6 months to completing all of my certifications so I can continue building my company with confidence, structure, and professionalism.

I’m still growing.
I’m still learning.
I’m still building.

And honestly, I think I’m much closer to reaching my business milestones than I sometimes realize.

Revenue Rx Pro is more than a business idea to me. It represents persistence, education, and the belief that investing in yourself will always be worth it.
